MGA Roadster
First registration 03.1956
Swiss road registration with veteran entry
The beautiful MGA Roadster offered here was in the last ownership for over 40 years and was there painstakingly and with love totally restored “frame off”, of which a photo documentation testifies. The last owner unfortunately passed away and the car was immobilized for the last few years. We have now put it back into service with, among other things, new brake master cylinder, brake and clutch hydraulics. This MGA Roadster is technically as well as optically in perfect and top maintained condition.
The MGA is a sports car which was produced by the MG division of BMC from 1955 to 1962.
As this series was very different from the previous MG models, it was called “MGA”, i.e. the car was considered the first car of a new series, as a contemporary advertisement depicted it.
Like its predecessor, the MGA was a separate-frame design and had the same BMC B-series engine as the MG Magnette, with power sent to the rear wheels through a four-speed manual transmission. The car had independent suspension on wishbones and coil springs at the front and a rigid axle suspended on semi-elliptic leaf springs at the rear. The rack-and-pinion steering was not power-assisted. The MGA had either steel disc wheels or wire wheels.
The inline four-cylinder engine had a displacement of 1489 cc and developed 68 bhp (50 kW) initially, and 72 bhp (53 kW) later. All four wheels were equipped with hydraulically actuated drum brakes, Lockheed make.
