Description:

Fiat 600

First Registration 1957, Fiat 600, 1st Series with „suicide doors“

Only 4‘000 kms since full restoration

Swiss Road Registration with „Veteran“ entry

This beautiful Fiat 600 was restored by an expert enthusiast in countless hours of labour. An extensive photo album documents the extensive restoration work. In addition to the work carried out by the owner, there are invoices for spare parts and external labour amounting to over CHF 13,000. Since the completion of the full restoration in 2010, this vehicle has only been driven 4’000 kilometres. An engine rebuild followed in 2016 and therefore the mileage of the engine is only 2’000 kilometres. In the winter of 2021/2022, the interior and the rims were perfected from red to the original colour scheme. What makes this first-generation 600 particularly interesting is that it still has the rear-opening doors, the smaller headlights and a few other collector’s details.

In 1955, at the Geneva Motor Show, the Fiat 600 was presented to the public and promptly celebrated as a sensation! The following test reports were full of praise and the car journalists were enthusiastic about this very compact space miracle for four people. The British Mini did not yet exist at that time and did not arrive until 1959. Space and driving comfort were compelling in this vehicle class, but the testers were particularly impressed by the small four-cylinder engine. Günther Gebhardt from the hobby magazine wrote the following lines with great verve: “”Una macchina coli fuoco!” Commendatore Salamano, head of Fiat’s in-house test department, told me. And God knows: the little beast really has fire under its tail! I stopped ten times because I just couldn’t believe that the little machine could go from 0 to 80 km/h in 25 seconds.”

What brings a smile of enjoyment to our lips today was a sensation at the time, as already mentioned at the introduction. Nowadays, it is above all the sympathetic appearance and elegant gracefulness of this “cute” small car that inspire enthusiasm. With a kerb weight of only 580 kilograms, driving fun is guaranteed and, what’s more, you will be delighted by the regular applause and greetings from other road traffic.

This Fiat 600 is in a museum-like perfect condition and leaves nothing to be desired.
