The Connaught A-Type offered here is one of only nine historic Grand Prix racing cars built in the early 1950s. It was developed for the 1952 World Championship, which was held under Formula 2 rules due to a lack of competition.

Driven by the factory team, the “Connaught Racing Syndicate,” chassis no. A6, along with three other A-type Connaughts, made its debut on July 15, 1952, at the British Grand Prix at Silverstone. With Eric Thompson at the wheel, it achieved a remarkable 5th place and 2 World Championship points for Connaught. In September, at the Italian Grand Prix in Monza, A6 was driven by none other than the up-and-coming young driver Stirling Moss.
After further races with the factory team, A6 joined the Jaguar C-Types in David Murray’s racing team, Ecurie Ecosse, where it was used very successfully from the 1953 season onwards. On race tracks such as Castle Combe, Dundrod, Goodwood, Silverstone, Snetterton, Thruxton, and many others, it was driven by prominent drivers such as Jimmy Stewart (Jackie Stewart’s older brother) and Ian Stewart. In two years, A6 is said to have participated in about 30 races with Ecurie Ecosse. In the 1955 and 1956 seasons, the race car was again successfully used by the Holt brothers before it was finally put into storage. The Connaught A6 was not seen on a race track for 33 years until it was purchased by Bob Burrell in 1989, completely rebuilt, and subsequently used by him in national races.

In 2005, the A6 found a new owner and was completely rebuilt to original specifications by JD Classics. It was then seen on race tracks on several occasions, for example at the Goodwood Revival with Chris Buncombe at the wheel, at the Monaco Historique Grand Prix, and at the Silverstone Classic GP.
This Connaught A-Type found its way to Switzerland in 2019, where the engine and transmission were completely overhauled and another CHF 100,000 was invested before it was used at the Jim Clark Revival in Hockenheim, the Nürburgring Classic, and various hill climbs, among other events. This very rare and historic Grand Prix racing car, which was driven in the era of Sir Stirling Moss, the Connaught Racing Syndicate, and Ecurie Ecosse, comes with FiA HTP papers and a FIVA identity card. It is in beautiful, well-maintained collector’s condition and is ready for immediate use. A notebook with entries from Ecurie Ecosse from 1953 and Bob Burrel up to the 1990s, the documented racing history, and other documents are available. There are also many spare parts and engine parts such as magnesium spare wheels, engine blocks, cylinder heads, etc., a workshop trolley including special tools, quick lifts, and much more.
