Strong identity, distinctive design, iconic engine
At the unveiling of the BMW Z3 M Coupé at the IAA in 1997, visitors and journalists were wowed alike. The long hood coupled with a compact rear end and wide wheel arches were atypical for a sports car of this format at the time. Typical of the M Division, on the other hand, was the powertrain with the most powerful version of the inline 6-cylinder engine at the time.
The Z3 M impressed with its 321 hp, 3.15 liter capacity and a curb weight of 1,270 KG. The engine, otherwise known as the S50B32, catapulted the rear-wheel drive M Coupé from 0 to 100 km/h in just 5.4 seconds – an absolute great performance in its days. With a production number of only 6’291 vehicles, this youngtimer definitely has the potential to become a real collector’s item.
Characteristic accents that distinguish only the top model are, in addition to the widened track and the four-flow exhaust system, the oval exterior mirrors, the chrome-plated gills, which are reminiscent of the legendary BMW 507 Roadster, and the special air intakes in the front bumper. A dominant impression is made by the roof, which curves far back and is incorporated into the rear in a striking line. Thanks to its concept, the Z3 M Coupé has outstanding agility: engine at the front, rear-wheel drive, long wheelbase, weight distribution of almost 50/50, seats positioned far back, low center of gravity, plus a precisely tuned chassis and a wide track. The M automobile makes it unmistakably clear to the observer that this is a sports car for individualists.
The low seating position, a handy three-spoke M steering wheel, the short gearshift and all instruments directly in view – this cockpit leaves no doubt, everything is focused on perhaps the most beautiful pastime in the world: driving.
This Z3 M Coupé was first delivered in 1999 and comes with original 98’800 Km from third hand.
