Sauber C2
1971
1 of 2 built
Cosworth FVA 1600cc F2 engine
In total Sauber built 13 race cars between 1970 and 1978. One of them is the C2B.002 offered here with Cosworth FVA 1600cc Formula 2 engine. The Sauber C2 was presented at the Geneva Motor Show in March 1971. It is the second racing car designed by Peter Sauber. Only two examples of the C2 were built, the so-called Kühnis car and, as a second chassis, the Kox car. This racing car was ordered by Hans-Dieter Kox (Freiburg i. Breisgau – DE) from Peter Sauber in 1971, built in Hinwil and delivered to Germany. Hans-Dieter Kox successfully raced the car in international mountain and circuit races in 1972/73 and 74, achieving several victories and very good classifications.
After the 1974 season, the Swiss Pierre Zoia bought the Sauber C2B-002. Zoia competed very successfully in 1975, 1977 and 1978 races in Italy, France, Germany, Austria and Switzerland. He achieved several top positions between 2nd and 4th place. After the 1978 season, the C2B-002 came into the collection of Walter Grell. There it stood until it was sold in 2006. The last owner restored the C2B.002 from scratch and rebuilt it to original condition in 2013 – due to regulation changes in 1975 and 1977 modifications had to be made to the car. A great photo documentation testifies to the extensive restoration. To this day, the car has still been used in some show races.
Original car passport, detailed technical documentation and confirmed history from Peter Sauber including new molds for front hood, wings, side boxes, air intakes and extensive replacement material available.
