Maserati Bora 4900
First registration 12.1973
Matching numbers
Maserati certified
Only 250 built
Swiss road registration with veteran entry
The Maserati Bora 4900 offered here is one of only 250 built with the 4.9 liter engine. As if it was not already rare enough in this small number of pieces, the 4.9 liters were not officially registered due to regulations in Switzerland at the time and found their way to us only as removal goods, for example.
This Bora was delivered after its completion in the color Argento and Pelle Rossa (leather red) in April 1974 to the USA to Los Angeles in California. In 2000 it was transferred from the USA to England, where it was then purchased at auction by a Swiss collector in 2006, imported and restored. The car has always been maintained and everything has been done without regard to cost. In the last years again over CHF 100’000.- were invested and before approx. 4’000 km the engine was completely revised. This beautiful Maserati Bora 4900 is matching numbers, Maserati certified and is in top maintained and very original collector condition. Many invoices and documents such as proof of origin, copies of original Maserati shipping and delivery papers from the period and the original owner’s manual are present.
The Bora made its debut at the Geneva Motor Show in March 1971. It was the manufacturer’s first road-going sports car with an in-house mid-mounted V8 engine, Maserati having already successfully gained experience with this design in racing. The coupé body was designed by Giorgio Giugiaro in 1969 at his company Italdesign. The handling, the spaciousness and the enormous power of the engine were particularly praised, as was the equipment: air conditioning, electric windows and seat and pedal adjustment were standard.
From 1971 to 1978, 571 examples of the Maserati Bora were produced. Of these, only 250 were with the large 4.9 liter engine.
