Lotus Elan S3
First registration 07.1966
Swiss delivery
Swiss road registration with veteran entry
Gordon Murray owns one. A Lotus Elan. In an interview with the British car magazine “EVO”, he was asked which he thought was the best car he had ever driven. Without hesitation, he shot off like a pistol: “The Lotus Elan. I’ve never driven anything better. Including the McLaren F1.” Gordon Murray is one of the most successful designers in Formula One, is the “father” of the McLaren F1 supercar from the 1990s, and is currently outselling all hypercars with his new GMA T.50.
The Lotus Elan was built from 1962 and replaced the elegant but expensive to produce Lotus Elite. The Elan was the first Lotus production sports car with a steel frame and body made of fiberglass-reinforced plastic. The car has a kerb weight of 680 kg and is very agile and fast with the Lotus Ford twin-cam engine, with a Lotus-designed aluminum cylinder head with dual overhead camshafts.
The Lotus Elan S3 offered here was already in our possession a few years ago – the car had only two previous owners at that time. With the last one it has been from 1974 until the end of 2012, when it was completely restored. The car was now again just under 10 years in the last possession and has fortunately found its way back to us. This beautiful Lotus Elan S3 is a Swiss delivery and veteran-approved.
