Mercedes-Benz 300 SL
First Registration 1958, Mercedes-Benz 300 SL Roadster
Original Swiss Delivery
Swiss Road Registration with „Veteran“ entry
Under the same ownership from 1967 until 2014
The Mercedes-Benz 300 SL Roadster was offered by Daimler-Benz AG between 1957 and 1963 and a total of 1858 cars were built. When Mercedes-Benz presented the 300 SL at the International Motor Sports Show in New York, it was declared to be the fastest sports car of its time.
The 300 SL Roadster enjoys the same amount of power as the 300 SL Gullwing, with its 215 HP. The space frame, which serves as the load-bearing framework, was adapted in the area of the doors and the rear so that the Roadster gained valuable space for a modest boot. The doors, which are attached to regular hinges, allow for a much more comfortable entrance compared to the coupé. The single-joint swing axle with balance spring offers not only improved driving characteristics but also a much smoother and comfortable ride. The soft top of the 300 SL Roadster can be stored under a flap behind the seats and is very easy to operate with a few simple movements.
Back then the purchase of a Mercedes-Benz 300 SL was only feasible for a few individuals due to its high price. Well-known buyers of the 300 SL included Juan Manuel Fangio, Rob Walker and Gunter Sachs.
This Mercedes-Benz 300 SL Roadster was delievered new to Switzerland and has never left the country since then. According to the supplied documentation, the Roadster only had three previous owners and was in the same ownership from 1967 to 2014. This Mercedes-Benz 300 SL is very well documented and has extremely interesting documents and various invoices, such as the purchase receipt from 1967, in which this absolute gem was sold for 11‘500.- CHF and exchanged for a second-hand VW de Luxe for 3‘500.- CHF! From today’s perspective, this is almost unbelievable, but that’s simply how it used to be back then. There are numerous invoices between 1967 and 2022, two folders full with them to be exact.
This is a unique opportunity to acquire a Swiss Mercedes-Benz 300 SL Roadster in a great and original condition.
