The Rapide models always held an outstanding position within the LAGONDA sales program in the pre-war years. Short wheel base combined with the highest performance level of the engine were the guarantor for particularly outstanding road performances. Thus the Lagonda M45R could claim to be the fastest British production car with a top speed of 105mph at the time of its release. This predicate was impressively underpinned by numerous successes in racing. The marque’s greatest success was the victory of a Lagonda privateer team in the 1935 Le Mans 24 Hours, where the Lagonda M45 Rapide of John Hindmarsh and Luis Fontés ended a four-year winning streak by Alfa Romeo. At the time, Lagonda was competing directly with Aston Martin.

A key feature was the Rapide’s special intake manifold, which improved flow to compensate for the SU twin carburetors’ habit of starving the outer cylinders on production cars.

The Rapide’s charms are easily accessible. You’re soon relaxed and enjoying the well-engineered controls and the lusty Meadows’ delivery.

In the case of this Lagonda M45 Rapide T9 Tourer, one may almost speak of a unique specimen, because the vehicle presents itself in a uniquely exceptional state.

Of the only 53 examples built, only 26 are reportedly known to exist in the world!

This Lagonda M45R was originally used by the English police and was used by the same in 1956 as a driving school car to train the members of the force.

The car was completely restored “frame off” in England.
The engine, radiator, brakes and tank were overhauled in 2015 at SIM Motoren in Frauenkappelen for CHF 80’000.00.

This rare M45 Rapide – only just over 50 were built – is the ultimate British all-round sports tourer of the 1930s and a stunningly beautiful and admirable classic car. This offer gives you a distinctly unique opportunity to embark on an eventful journey back in time on every outing and to be admirably the center of attention at all exclusive classic car events.
