The Maserati Ghibli 4.9 SS—when Giugiaro and Maserati set out to build perfection.
The Ghibli SS is one of the most sought-after Italian sports cars of the 1970s, designed by Giorgetto Giugiaro (Ghia). As the most powerful and rarest version of the legendary series, it combines breathtaking design with thoroughbred supercar technology that competed directly with the Ferrari Daytona and Lamborghini Miura.
The Maserati Ghibli SS Coupé offered here is a matching-numbers car and has been with its last owner for over 30 years. No effort or expense was spared to keep the car in impeccable condition; it was regularly serviced and maintained by professionals, and all work is documented. This veteran-certified car is in beautiful, meticulously maintained, and highly original collector’s condition. Numerous invoices and an original owner’s manual are included.
The Ghibli was unveiled at the 1966 Turin Motor Show. Its extremely low-slung silhouette, long hood, retractable headlights, and short rear end immediately made it a style icon. In 1969, Maserati launched the more powerful SS (Super Sport) version. The displacement of the legendary DOHC V8 was increased from 4.7 to 4.9 liters, making the Ghibli SS the fastest production Maserati of its time. With only 425 units built, original SS models are among the most sought-after Maserati classics today.
